UNCW will suspend operations at 2 p.m. today and remain closed through Thursday, Jan. 4, due to the Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service.

A decision about Friday operations will be announced by 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Faculty and staff who are scheduled to work during the winter weather event should refer to the Adverse Weather Policy (Condition 2) to determine their best personal course of action.

Orientation for spring 2018 transfer students will continue as scheduled Wednesday, but will conclude by 1:45 p.m. Orientation for freshmen, previously scheduled for Thursday, will be rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7; please visit the orientation website for more information. Students are still able to return to campus housing on Wednesday as scheduled, but they should continue to check the Housing and Residence Life website before beginning any travel to campus to ensure they have the latest information.

When driving on affected roads during this weather event, please carry a paper map and cash; stay alert; avoid cell phone use; leave early to allow for additional travel time; reduce speed; increase following distance; and be patient. As conditions may vary across the region and no one weather bulletin will apply to everyone, please remember that each of us is responsible for our own decisions, actions and safety.

Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor their campus email inboxes for updates; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review. Updates will also be posted as conditions warrant on the UNCW homepage, Facebook and Twitter.
