WEATHER ALERT: UNCW Will Remain Closed Through Friday, Jan. 5
Thursday, January 04, 2018
5:14 p.m., Jan. 4, 2018
UNCW will remain closed through Friday, Jan. 5, due to continued impacts of the weather event. Classes are fully expected to begin as scheduled on Monday, Jan. 8. If that changes, a campus email will be sent and updates will appear via the university's website and other channels (below).
For updated information about campus services and operations, please visit these websites before setting out for campus locations:
Campus Dining
Randall Library
Orientation
Student Recreation Center
Faculty and staff who are scheduled to work during the winter weather event should refer to the Adverse Weather Policy(Condition 2) to determine their best personal course of action.
STUDENTS: Freshman orientation will proceed as scheduled on Sunday. With the exception of Graham Hall, the university residence halls are open. However, students are advised to avoid travel at this time unless a Friday return to campus is absolutely necessary, and, as always, they should make the travel and safety decisions that are best for them. Please note that students will not be able to return to Graham Hall until Saturday at 3 p.m. due to ongoing heat/hot water repair. This does not affect any other residence halls, including Hewlett Hall. If that changes, students will be notified via email. There is no need to call campus to confirm that a residence hall is open; all halls other than Graham are open, and any changes will be communicated immediately.
Please continue to check the Housing and Residence Life website before traveling to campus to ensure you have the latest information.
When driving on affected roads during this weather event, please carry a paper map and cash; stay alert; avoid cell phone use; leave early to allow for additional travel time; reduce speed; increase following distance; and be patient. As conditions may vary across the region and no one weather bulletin will apply to everyone, please remember that each of us is responsible for our own decisions, actions and safety.
Please understand that campus employees are doing everything they can to ensure safe and passable walkways and roads on campus. However, weather conditions continue to make surfaces very slippery. Proceed slowly and with caution on and around campus.
Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor their campus email inboxes for updates; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review. Updates will also be posted as conditions warrant on the UNCW homepage, Facebook, and Twitter. These channels contain the latest information available to university officials. The Emergency Information Hotline can be reached at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751. The hotline serves only as a backup for information already posted on UNCW.edu.
