WEATHER ALERT: University operations will be suspended at 2 p.m. Wednesday
Tuesday, January 02, 2018
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, effective 11 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 3) until 6 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 4).
UNCW will suspend operations at 2 p.m. Wednesday until at least 12 p.m. on Thursday. A decision about operations on Thursday afternoon will be announced by 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Orientation for spring 2018 transfer students will continue as scheduled Wednesday, but will conclude by 1:45 p.m. Orientation for freshmen, previously scheduled for Thursday, will be rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7; please visit the orientation website for more information. At this time, students are still able to return to campus housing on Wednesday as scheduled, but they should continue to check the Housing and Residence Life website before setting out to return to campus.
Faculty and staff who are scheduled to work during the winter weather event should refer to the Adverse Weather Policy (Condition 2) to determine their best personal course of action.
Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor their campus email inboxes for updates; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review. Updates will also be posted as conditions warrant on the UNCW homepage, Facebook and Twitter. These channels contain the latest information available to university officials. The Emergency Information Hotline can be reached at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751. The hotline serves only as a backup for information already posted on UNCW.edu.
