The University of North Carolina Wilmington has published a commemorative book written by Thomas R. Hart, a lecturer in the Department of History, in honor of the university’s 70th anniversary.

Giving Flight to Imagination: 70 Years of Excellence presents a selection of pivotal moments and special memories that have shaped the vision, values and growth of Wilmington College and UNCW through the years.

“UNCW’s history is one of partnerships between its founders, leaders, faculty, staff, and students,” Hart said, adding that philanthropic donors and “an entire community of supporters” contributed to UNCW’s evolution into a “university dedicated to providing affordable and quality education and community service.”

Giving Flight also includes a collection of images that showcase the campus spirit that transcends generations of Seahawks. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the UNCW Bookstore or online for $29.95.
