Seahawk Saturday: Campus Abuzz with Fall Visit Day, S.T.E.A.M. Celebration and CMS Open House
Monday, September 18, 2017
UNCW is expecting a full house on Saturday, Sept. 23. In addition to hosting future Seahawks for “Seahawk Saturday,” UNCW's official Fall Visit Day, the Watson College of Education and Center for Marine Science are opening their doors for the public to see work being done in coastal and marine sciences, technology and more.
From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the WCE welcomes all to a celebration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Faculty, staff and students will host interactive learning stations and give presentations and tours of facilities used for S.T.E.A.M. learning and research. This is a family-friendly event with activities taking place across campus. Agenda and details are available at the S.T.E.A.M. Celebration website.
Director of Youth Programs Sue Kezios sees it as “a great opportunity for families in the community to engage with our extended UNCW campus and discover some of the community and university partnerships that support STEM activities in our region.”
Beginning at 11 a.m., the CMS is hosting an open house. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the center (located at 5600 Marvin Moss Lane) and attend seminars led by UNCW's renowned marine and coastal science experts. Two shuttles will run from the Burney Center circle every half hour starting at 10:30 a.m. For more information, please visit the CMS event website.
“Having these events together is a great opportunity for those participating in the S.T.E.A.M. interactive activities to also see the CREST campus, which is a significant supporting center for UNCW’s coastal and marine sciences and the faculty, staff and students working in the coastal realm,” said CMS Director Martin Posey.
