UNCW Monitoring Tropical Depression Emily
Tuesday, August 01, 2017
UNCW is monitoring Tropical Depression Emily in partnership with the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, N.C. Emily crossed over Florida overnight on July 31 and weakened to a tropical depression that is now heading out to sea. Overall, local impacts are expected to be limited to an increased risk of rip currents. See how to escape from a rip current (pdf link).
The Environmental Health & Safety Department will continue to work with local, state and federal agencies to track the storm’s progress, and additional information will be shared with the campus community as warranted. The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, but preparing for potential severe weather and other emergencies is a year-round priority at UNCW. UNCW students, faculty and staff should be familiar with campus emergency procedures and communications and have personal preparedness plans.
Students, faculty and staff may also sign up to receive emergency text messages.
