Wednesday, June 28, 2017

The Media Production team in the UNCW Office of University Relations has collected two more Telly Awards, the university announced today.

A Holiday Message from Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli” won a People’s Telly Award, which “gives power to the people,” as winners are chosen by online viewers from across the world. Since taking the helm of UNCW in 2015, Chancellor Sartarelli has worn many hats, which was the theme for this campus community message. In the video, he tries his hand at CPR, surfing, operating the university switchboard, ceramics and chemistry. The piece was viewed more than 5,500 times. Jesse Bradley, director of media production, served as producer. Krista McKinney served as editor and cinematographer and Bradley Pearce contributed with cinematography.

Bradley and McKinney garnered an additional Telly in the “Recruitment” category for their work in producing a video showcasing the UNCW Department of Music. An accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the department is comprised of a dedicated faculty of internationally recognized artists and offers extensive performance opportunities for those studying to become artists and teachers.

The OUR Media Production team highlights the academic and institutional achievements of the university via video production, still photography and multimedia campaigns. Their work can be viewed throughout the university and community as well as via the team’s Vimeo page.

In April, the team was honored with a Bronze Telly in the category of Public Interest/Awareness for “I Can Do It, You Can Do It.” The video showcases the university’s unique program of the same name, which provides physical activity programs for area individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Last year, the team received a Bronze Telly for “UNCW Move-In Day Experience” and captured an honor in the Bronze category for “WE ARE UNCW: International Student Thanksgiving.” In 2015, “You Are Not Alone,” a public service announcement created by OUR to support the efforts of the university's Collaboration for Assault Response and Education program, was also bestowed a Bronze honor.

For 38 years, the Telly Awards have recognized the best in cable TV programming, as well as online, video and film productions. Noted Telly recipients include CNBC, Comcast, Conde Nast Entertainment, Discovery and Showtime Networks.

The awards reflect the institution's commitment to engage with the surrounding community and the world, key priorities outlined in UNCW’s Strategic Plan
