Monday, February 13, 2017

From financial planning to networking, UNCW’s annual “Career Success Week” offers a multitude of events to help participants’ careers take flight. All events are free and open to UNCW students and alumni.

The week gets underway on Monday, Feb. 13 with a financial planning workshop and concludes on Thursday, Feb. 16 with on-campus interviews. On Wednesday, the annual Spring Career Fair takes place from 12 to 3 p.m. in UNCW’s Burney Center. Employers representing a variety of industries, including advertising/marketing, bio-tech, business services, communications/media, finance/banking, government, healthcare, hospitality, insurance, research and retail will be on hand. Specifically, representatives from Fortune 500 organizations such as Target, State Farm, Disney and Sherwin Williams will be present, as well as nonprofits including the Peace Corps and the American Red Cross.

“The Career Center has developed a number of programs and services to support the Strategic Plan’s core value of commitment to student success, resulting in expanded internship and job opportunities and additional employment and graduate school resources for our students,” said Thom Rakes, director of the Career Center and assistant to the vice chancellor of student affairs for technology.

The career fair provides a unique opportunity for both undergraduate as well as graduate students and alumni to connect with employers for information about careers, organizations and industries, as well as specific internship and job opportunities. In addition, professional headshots can be taken via a LinkedIn Photo Booth.

Preparing students for post-graduation success and increasing post-graduation career placement is a major initiative of the current UNCW Strategic Plan.
