About SPARC

The SPARC team supports and promotes work by researchers and research administrators. We partner with the research and academic community to:

  • Steward sponsored funding
  • Provide timely technical expertise in finding funding
  • Prepare and submit proposals
  • Obtain and negotiate awards
  • Offer compliance solutions in accordance with regulatory requirements

SPARC creates a culture of integrity and compliance; fosters an environment of mutual respect, inclusion and open-mindedness; and encourages continuous professional environment.

Mission

We support and promote the work of UNCW’s researchers and research administrators. We partner with the research and academic community to:

  • Review and approve all proposal and budgets before submission to external sponsors
  • Negotiate, accept, and manage all agreements with external sponsors and subrecipient organizations
  • Enable and ensure responsible stewardship of sponsored funds
  • And we strive to create and sustain a collaborative environment that facilitates compliance with sponsor requirements, applicable regulations, and University policies. 

To that end, we are committed to:

  • Supporting the growth of UNCW's sponsored program portfolio
  • Developing talented and knowledgeable experts in the field
  • And continuously improving the systems, tools, and policies and procedures that support effective award management.
