All copier screens have a contrast adjustment, which is usually a dial on the control panel marked 'Contrast' or a sliding button on the right side of the copier.

What happens when you tap or slide your card? Does the reader give any sort of message? Does the card activate the reader but not the copier? Try to determine if the problem is with the card or the card reader by trying your card in a different card reader.
