Oyster Spat Monitoring Heading banner

Oysters are vital to the health and structure of coastal North Carolina.  They are economically importance as a fishery. In addition, oysters filter the water, stabilize the shoreline, and provide habitat for other species. By educating citizen scientists about the importance of oysters in our coastal waterways and enlisting their help to gather data, we hope to build a more resilient community. Our citizen scientists provide a valuable service through their data collection. This data can be used by scientists to inform research and policy in our coastal communities.

*Please note, our volunteer citizen scientists for OSM are required to have legal access to a dock or suitable location, such as private marsh access, and are asked to collect data for 12 months.
