Join the UNCW LGBTQIA+ Resource Office and the Women's Studies and Resource Center (WSRC) for an afternoon to celebrate the graduates of Spring 2019. At this event we will have an awards ceremony for The Frank Harr Service to Wilmington/North Carolina’s LGBTQIA Community Award, the L.S. "Bo" Dean Faculty and Staff Award, and The Julia Boseman Student Leadership Award. After this we will individually recognize all of our graduating students and celebrate with a chords ceremony and cake.

Graduates, for the lavender LGBTQIA+ community chord please RSVP here to let us know a bit more about you for the ceremony. Friends, partners, and family are welcomed to join us for this community event! Please be aware that WSRC and WGS chord requests must go through the WSRC.

Award Nominations:

The UNCW LGBTQIA+ Resource Office awards three distinguished awards annually to members of the Wilmington community and the Seahawk community. These awards are as follows: 

The Frank Harr Service to Wilmington/North Carolina's LGBTQIA Community Award is given to a person or organization in the Wilmington or surrounding community that has worked on promoting visibility and understanding of LGBTQIA issues. The award will honor local individuals or organizations who are working tirelessly towards improving the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Wilmington and surrounding areas.

The L.S. "Bo" Dean Faculty and Staff Award is to recognize outstanding efforts of an individual at UNCW working towards creating an inclusive, respectful, and safe climate for members of the LGBTQIA community. The award recipient should demonstrate a sustained and tangible impact on the campus community. Examples of such efforts might include:
* Advocating for LGBTQIA individuals, groups, and issues on campus.
* Coordinating an academic department or staff unit that promotes the professional advancement of LGBTQIA faculty and staff.
* Creating projects and events that promote greater awareness of LGBTQIA issues.
* Designing activities and programs that convey personal safety and mutual respect for and among LGBTQIA students, faculty, and staff.

The Julia Boseman Student Leadership Award recognizes outstanding student leadership and contributions in educational, social, and/or political activism for LGBTQIA people at UNCW. The recipient will have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the issues of sexual orientation and gender expression on campus and has made a tangible impact through advocacy for the university’s LGBTQIA population. All graduate and undergraduate students at UNCW are eligible for the award.
