LGBTQIA RESOURCE GUIDE for WILMINGTON, NC
This resource guide was assembled by UNCW's LGBTQIA Resource Office. The guide
provides our LGBTQIA students, faculty and staff with the resources necessary for their diverse
needs. It is also an attempt to promote the safety of our LGBTQIA students, faculty and staff in
businesses, organizations, places of worship and services in the Wilmington community.
We have included resources that have identified themselves as one or more of the following:
- LGBTQIA-owned
- have indicated an interest in serving the LGBTQIA community
- have indicated a specialization in issues of special interest to the LGBTQIA community
- have staff specially trained to deal with the particular needs of their LGBTQIA clients
- have communicated that they have a non-discrimination policy with respect to the
conditions of employment regarding gender identity or sexual orientation - have sponsored LGBTQIA community events and organizations
or have communicated that they are committed to provided a safe and welcoming
environment for LGBTQIA patrons.
This guide is not a complete list of all resources available to LGBTQIA students, faculty and
staff. Any organization who wishes to be considered for this guide should contact the LGBTQIA
Resource Office at 910-962-2114. Additionally, we reserve the right to remove from this list any
organization or business that is found to no longer adhere to the policies they have
communicated. UNCW does not necessarily endorse the views or activities of these listed or businesses.

The LGBTQIA Resource Office at the University of North Carolina Wilmington supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and allied students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Our office works to create a safe and inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community and contribute to a culturally rich campus. Additionally, the office works both to raise awareness and inclusion of sexual and gender minorities and to provide information, referral, support, and programming to the UNCW Community. We do this through community building, advocacy, social justice and diversity education and the development of global citizens. All members of the UNCW campus are welcome. |

The Women's Studies and Resource Center provides students, faculty, staff, and those in the greater Wilmington community with opportunities to experience the diverse facets of women's lives, hopes and concerns from artistic, historical, and other perspectives. The Center offers an interdisciplinary Women's Studies minor, opportunities for community outreach and an ongoing calendar of co-curricular activities which include workshops, lectures and scholarly panels. Connecting with affiliated faculty, the Women's Studies minor provides diverse intellectual frameworks for investigating issues related to women, gender, and sexuality, including the history and function of gender roles, the construction of gendered identity in diverse cultural contexts, the experience of masculinity and femininity across the lifespan, patterns and consequences of discrimination and privilege, and the development of organized women's social movements. |

Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), formerly PRIDE, was established on campus in 1986 as the Gay and Lesbian Association to meet the needs of the LGBTIQA community. SAGA is a UNCW student organization dedicated to the recognition of students, faculty, and staff who have individual and unique personalities and would like to discuss current social issues. We primarily deal with issues concerning lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and allied (LGBTIQA) communities. |
