Where are they Wednesdays: Stories of UNCW Spanish Alumni
Kelsey Yokovich Spanish BA, Class of 2016
Why did you study Spanish?
After taking Spanish in high school, I knew I wanted to continue that education at the university level. What I did not know is that it would become my major! I started off at UNCW studying Biology, but quickly fell in love with all things Spanish--the literature, language, culture, etc., and decided to go full-time with my Spanish studies!
How do you use Spanish now?
After graduation, I moved to Madrid, Spain for a year to work as an AuxiIiar de Conversacion (English teacher) in a bilingual elementary school. I currently work as a Behavioral Health Access Specialist at Clinica Latina at Coastal Horizons Center where I am using Spanish on a daily basis to help clients schedule appointments, complete paperwork, understand the services offered and supporting our clinical staff. Coastal Horizons is a non-profit in Wilmington that provides mental health and substance abuse services to the surrounding communities. Specifically in Clinica Latina, we provide those services to the Spanish-speaking community.
