Stories of UNCW Spanish Alumni
Latisha Rivera
Class of 2019, Spanish BA
Why did you study Spanish?
I choose to study Spanish just be able to connect with my family back in Puerto Rico, especifically my abuela. I planned on only minoring until I took SPN 201 with Dr. Balena. She completely changed my perspective. She even encouraged me to continue my studies and become a Spanish major and to study abroad in Costa Rica, which was one of the best decisions of my undergraduate experience.
How do you use Spanish now?
I am currently a first year admission coordinator at UNCW. I help students with the application process and use my Spanish whenever needed by students and parents. Also, I can happily say that I now have full conversations with my abuela without a dictionary.
