Where are They Wednesdays: Stories of UNCW Spanish Alumni

Lisa Ramsden Class of 2007

Why did you study Spanish?

I studied Spanish at UNCW because I love the language and feel that it is so important to be able to communicate with people outside of your mother tongue.

How do you use Spanish now?

Since graduating, I've been working with Greenpeace, the environmental non-profit. We are an international organization and I often wind up working on our ships that travel around the world working on environmental campaigns. The crew of the ships is very international, and the Spanish speakers always appreciate it when they realize they can speak to me in Spanish. I travel frequently for work and it is always a relief to know that I can get around any Spanish-speaking country with ease.
