Where are they Wednesdays: Stories of UNCW Spanish Alumni
Danielle Mastrogiovanni Class of 2001 - Spanish BA
Why did you study Spanish?
I studied Spanish for the love of the language and the culture. My mother’s side of the family is from Spain, but we didn’t grow up speaking Spanish. I felt that learning the language was one of the most humble ways to deeply connect with and honor my heritage.
How do you use Spanish now?
After graduating, I moved to Spain and taught English as a 2nd Language for 7 years. Then life brought me back to the United States. I went back to graduate school and I’m now a practicing Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. I use the language to communicate with my Spanish speaking patients in south FL.
