Working Safely and Securely
Since you will not be protected by some of the security controls delivered on-campus, such as our firewalls and browsing protection, we urge you to maintain good security practices when working remotely.
Here are our recommendations:
- Avoid using open or public (unencrypted) Wi-Fi for university business.
Why? Check out this helpful article: What’s Wrong with Using Public Wi-Fi? - Ensure all devices you use are up to date and have antivirus installed.
- Never provide your password to anyone or share your account access.
- Maintain the appropriate separation of UNCW data and your personal devices, especially sensitive or business critical data.
- Keep you university data on the appropriate resources (UNCW OneDrive or SharePoint).
- Use your UNCW email account or the UNCW Teams application for business communication - do not use your personal accounts for university business communication.
- Use SharePoint online or OneDrive to control access to UNCW data.
- Watch your email for TAC phishing alerts & security communications.
*Please stay vigilant for phishing or malicious attacks. We expect to see an increase in attacks during this time. - Please slow down and be mindful before you click on a hyperlink.
- If you see anything suspicious, please let us know so that we can give your report immediate attention.
- Please send any suspected phishing emails to phishing@uncw.edu
- For anything else, please contact the TAC or itsecurity@uncw.edu
