The Accountability Management System (AMS)

What is the Accountability Management System by Taskstream?

AMS is the system used at UNCW to manage and store unit-level assessment plans and reports that are aligned with the Institution's Strategic Plan and Mission Statement. Information for students to access the Learning Achievement Tool (LAT) by Taskstream is located within the education program in which the student is enrolled.

The Assessment Plan Details in Taskstream

The Assessment Plan is where units document which outcomes will be assessed and the measures used to assess them within an assessment cycle. This requirement includes the outcomes and measures component, the mission statement, and details about the person(s) responsible, the dates of data collection, and acceptable benchmarks or targets. These targets are very important to your assessment report, and as a result, this field should not be overlooked in your plan.

The outcomes and measures component of the assessment plan allows units to select from outcomes sets created in other outcomes requirements or to import distributed goal sets.  Within this component, units can indicate measure titles, measure types/methods, details/descriptions, and near-term targets.  The assessment plan also includes sections for measure level, supporting attachments, and long-term targets.  Units are able to include as many outcomes as they need, and to link these outcomes to the institutional mission, professional/national standards and the UNCW mission statement. We also encourage units to map their outcomes to the SACSCOC standards, which are available in the system.

The Assessment Findings requirement provides a place for units to document findings of each measure, and recommendations or analysis based on the results. 

The “Findings per Measure” component of the assessment plan provides a place for units to provide their findings for each measure that is included in the outcomes and measures section.  Within this component, units can write a summary of findings and near-term target achievements.  The assessment plan also includes sections for substantiating evidence, recommendations, reflections/notes, and long-term target achievements.

Actions for Improvement Details

The Actions for Improvement area is used to determine where a unit is going over the next year or more, how it’s going to get there, and how it will determine whether it has gotten there. Action planning results in improved or increased functioning of a unit's processes, capacity, or other operational areas.  While some outcomes can affect teaching and learning, others focus on growth or capacity such as building a new building on campus, or strategic initiatives like increasing the diversity of the student body. Some actions may related to efficiencies, savings, productivity and professional development.

The action plan defines what operational outcomes are being addressed, how the unit plans to get there, and how to know whether you've achieved success.  This planning occurs in a cyclical process, though certain parts of the action plan can carry over from cycle-to-cycle.  Action plans often involve budget request and supervisory approval before actions can be moved forward.

The Status Report

The Status Report provides a place for each unit to document its progress, the status of the action for improvement plan, and next steps for each action included in the Plan. Each status report consists of:
    1. Current Status: Specify the status (not started, in progress, completed, or closed) of the action.
    2. Budget Status: Specify the status (approved, pending approval, not approved, or other) of the budget request.
    3. Additional Information: Provide details regarding the status of the action.
    4. Next Steps: Enter suggestions based on the results of the action.
    5. Attachments/Web Links: Add additional attachments and web links

The Status Summary component provides a text area for units to include an overall summary of progress.

Meta-Assessment

Meta-assessment is the practice of evaluating the assessment process and electronic system using a common instrument or checklist. At UNCW, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness engages in meta-assessment by way of trained reviewers who are tasked with reviewing and scoring the assessment and action plans submitted by units, using a uniform scoring instrument. Units receive detailed feedback on their outcomes, measures, mission statement, findings, results, action steps and status reports, and use this feedback to inform their next assessment cycle. Meta-assessment allows for continuous improvement of the assessment planning process, and leads us toward institutional effectiveness.
