Academic Interests
I research and write about modern Britain and Ireland with a particular focus on the 19th century, the history of alcohol and temperance, the British Empire, and the history of Irish cosmopolitanism. I am particularly interested in the junctures between popular culture and politics, the development of Irish nationalism and social movements, and the history of Ireland's engagement with the wider Atlantic world and beyond. My most recent research has focused on the history of Irish anti-imperialism.
