New Supervisor Signature Program

Communication can be difficult. And it can be even more difficult when communicating with employees about performance and expectations. You are not in this challenge alone. Join your fellow leaders at UNCW and learn how to better navigate difficult conversations around performance, expectations, and accountability with colleagues and staff members.

This series provides an overview of your responsibilities as a campus leader with regard to employee relations, which includes supporting staff members, setting performance expectations, and holding staff accountable. We in Employee Relations understand that this part of leadership is challenging, and we hope to support you to be the best leader you can be.

What is it?

This 4-part (2 hour each) workshop series equips new UNCW leaders and managers with the tools and knowledge to address difficult supervision issues and provide support to staff members in need.

Who should join?

If you are a new manager, supervisor, chair, or leader with staff supervision responsibilities, this certificate program is right for you.  

Why should I apply?

There are many reasons you should apply for this program. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Gain self-efficacy in your ability to manage difficult supervisory situations
  • Engage in leadership practices to take back to your office/unit
  • Learn to set clear expectations for staff members and support these expectations
