Spring Move-In 2021: Welcome back to UNC Wilmington!

While we hope you enjoyed the winter break, we are very excited to see you return to live on campus for the 2021 Spring semester. The return to campus will be very different from the past so please ensure you read all the information fully.  Information emailed and our Return to Campus FAQ can be found here

COVID-19 Test Protocol:

To return to campus, residents will either need to provide the Student Health Center (SHC) with a COVID-19 test result or be tested on-site upon arrival. When bringing a test result, ensure the test occurred within 5 days of your arrival to Campus. This link provides you options for testing locations by county:  NC DHHS COVID-19: Find My Testing Place. Please clearly articulate to the medical provider that you are required to have a COVID-19 test in order to return to UNCW Campus and reside in a congregate living environment. Even if you are not showing symptoms or have not been in close contact with an infected party a negative test result is mandatory to enter the residence halls. If you test positive before returning to campus, you need to stay home until you complete your isolation period and notify us at coronavirus@uncw.edu. If you have been quarantined due to a close contact, you need to stay home until you complete your quarantine period.

For those arriving needing a test, please be prepared for testing delays. In addition, should you test positive for COVID-19, then you will have to isolate in Galloway Hall or return directly home. If you test positive before returning to campus, you need to stay home until release from isolation and you need to notify us at coronavirus@uncw.edu. If you have been quarantined due to a close contact, you need to stay home until you complete your quarantine period.

Residence Hall Return Process (Belk & G-H, Cornerstone, Keystone, Pelican, Sandpiper and Schwartz):

Students are able to move-in to their residence halls during their designated time slot between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, January 15, Saturday, January 16, and Tuesday, January 19. Students will use signup genius to schedule a two-hour block of time to arrive. If you have not already done so, please sign up here. Students arriving will participate in one of two processes depending on if they are arriving with a test result or arrive needing to be tested.

What to do if I have a test result?   If you have your negative results in hand (taken less than 5 days prior to arrival) or a paper copy of your positive test (less than 90 days old & recovered) you may participate in the drive-through express process.

  1. Arrive on-campus no more than 15 minutes before your sign-up time block. You can arrive any time during your two hour sign up window.
  2. Arrive at parking lot 1A (Hamilton Lot) on the Hurst Drive entrance. This is the large parking lot at the front of the campus just south of the Trask parking lots and across from the track.Parking lot 1a map
  3. You will be directed to one of 4 lanes by volunteers, where we will collect your test results and provide you with a wristband. You must wear that wristband until January 22. It is your pass to enter the halls. Without a band you may not enter.
  4. If more than one car is in your arrival group, only the car with the student should enter the parking lot express process.
  5. Please be sure to wear a face covering once you enter the parking lot.

What to do if I need to be tested onsite?  If you were unable to be tested in advance, please note that you will need to be patient upon your arrival. The university will provide you a rapid test, but please know the process may be time consuming.

  1. Arrive on-campus no more than 15 minutes before your sign-up time block. Drive directly to the Visitor parking lot M located off Riegel Road.Parking lot M map
  2. Please park and walk to the Burney Center. There you will be asked to fill out a brief form, will be tested, and then will wait in Burney until your test has been processed. Once you are tested, we expect that you will have your result within 45 minutes. There will be staff directing you once you arrive.
  3. Once your test has been processed, you will be given your results. If the result is negative, you will be given a wristband you must wear this until January 22.
  4. If your test result is positive, you will move in to Galloway Hall or go home until you are released from isolation.
  5. Anyone who has accompanied you to campus will need to wait in their car until this process is complete. Again, they should be patient as this process could take some time.

Seahawks/Suites Return Process:

Seahawk/Suite residents have two options for returning to campus based on their return date:

  • Seahawk/Suite residents returning to campus on or before January 14 will provide test results directly to the Student Health Center (SHC). The SHC will accept results Monday through Friday from 9 A.M through 4 P.M. between January 4 and January 14.
  • Seahawk/Suite residents returning on or after January 15 will participate in the Residence Hall Return Process. Residents will need to sign up for an arrival window using our Resident Return Signup. During this window residents will present their COVID-19 test or receive an on-site test.
