Honors students pose at the 17th annual beach sweep at Kure Beach.

Picnic and Beach Day, Saturday, August 19, 2017, Kure Beach, NC

It's an annual tradition for Honors students to gather at Kure Beach near Dr. B's house to spend a morning beach-sweeping, then return for munchies and time at the beach. This event is co-sponsored by the Honors Scholars Association, Honors Mentors, and the Honors program. In 2016 we received a recognition award from Kure Beach Mayor Emily Swearingen!

Meet: 9:15 AM in Honors House lobby for a ride or to offer a ride, or at 10 AM at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park right by the Kure Beach pier on K Avenue.

Please note that parking is limited - so please carpool. We will have bags, gloves and directions for your group at the park.   We will assign people to public beach access points once you check in and have your gear.

Bring:  Your own Water Bottle

Picnic:  Then, return for lunch and prizes at Kure Ocean Front Park at about 1130.  Lunch provided.**

Beach time:  If you can stay longer, please do!  After the picnic, stay at the Ocean Front Park or come to Dr. B’s house across from the beach- we will have:  Bocci and other games, and a chance to go surfing, body-surfing, swimming, shark tooth collecting, etc., weather permitting. Bring swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, and beach games/toys, and beach chairs if you want.  Plan to be outside!

**If you are NOT a freshman, we are asking that you please bring a bag of chips, a 2 liter bottle of soda, OR cookies, etc to share. If you want to go in together for a side dish, that would be wonderful!  HSA and Honors will provide lunch and all beach- sweeping gear.
