Learning Without Limits: Building the Bridge Between Students, the Community and the World
Ms. Elizabeth Felts, New Hanover County Schools 2020 Teacher of the Year
Ms. Felts created the Honors Service Learning program, which allows students to discuss and identify issues in the community and world and find innovative ways to meet these needs. Students serve a minimum of 40 hours during the semester at one of the 40+ service-learning placements throughout the Wilmington area. Due to the success of this program, Ms. Felts co-founded the Bridge Program to target students with academic needs and leadership potential. This session will give an overview of those programs as well as show educators how to implement service learning in their own school settings in order to promote equity.
