Christa Tompkins

A native of Southeastern North Carolina, Christa earned her Bachelor of English and Philosophy & Religion from UNCW in '97. She completed teacher certification in 2001 and began her career in education. In 2016, she returned to UNCW and the Watson College of Education to pursue an M.Ed. in Literacy and Language, graduating in May 2018. During her 19 years in education, 15 were in a traditional setting at North Brunswick High School. Following that, she taught for two years at Pender Early College High School in Burgaw, NC. In 2016, she left PECHS for the opportunity to open and build a new school, Southeast Area Technical High School, in New Hanover County.

Her passion for education centers around strong relationships and the belief that true education begins with exposing students to worlds beyond their own and offering a safe space where questioning is encouraged, and diversity is embraced. Her hope is that each child leaves her classroom with a desire to be a life-long learner.
