Office of Student Engagement & Recruitment

The Office of Student Engagement and Recruitment strives to uphold the Watson College of Education’s mission and value statements.

The following strategies are implemented and supported in order to recruit and retain teacher licensure candidates click on the titles to expand the panel:

Prospective Student Outreach
  • Maintain partnerships with the Office of Admissions , local community colleges, and Professional Development System (PDS) Partnership
  • Arrange presentations for prospective students about programs offered in the Watson College of Education.
  • Host information sessions on being admitted into Watson for current undergraduates.
  • Recruit transfer students from local area community colleges.
  • Host Future Teacher Conferences twice a year for Teacher Cadet and Early Education Programs.
Community Outreach
  • Volunteer at local schools.
  • Volunteer for various non-profit events within the community.
  • Provide announcements of K-12 tutoring opportunities.
Climate and Inclusion
Teaching and Classroom Practices
  • Continual communication with the Watson College of Education programs in order to have extensive knowledge of courses being offered by the first class professors who specialize in various areas of research.
  • Education Living-Learning Community (ELLC) provides freshmen with the opportunity to live with other pre-education majors and expand their understanding of their profession through the First Year Seminar. The ELLC also provides peer mentoring, outreach opportunities, and field experiences.
Professional Development
  • The Watson Student Leaders provide students with an opportunity to perform additional volunteer opportunities.
  • Professional speakers are invited each semester to provide insight on K-12 education both at home and abroad.
  • Student and alumni panels present on topics like interviewing and resume building to prepare our students to find jobs after college.
