MAT in Elementary Education

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Elementary Education is designed for students that already hold a bachelor's degree, but have little or no background in education. Successful completion of the program will lead to NC Elementary Education certification (K-6) and prepare educators to teach as elementary classroom teachers. English as a Second Language

MAT in English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language specialization of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree is designed to prepare individuals who currently hold a bachelor's degree for North Carolina teacher certification in the area of ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). Successful completion of the coursework and field experiences associated with this program will prepare candidates to take the Praxis II ESOL and apply for North Carolina K-12 certification in this area. MAT in Middle Grades

MAT in Middle Grades Education

The M. A.T. in Middle Grades Education Program is designed for students holding a Bachelor's degree who are seeking North Carolina Middle Level teaching licensure while simultaneously earning a graduate degree. This 33‐hour program prepares teacher candidates to teach middle grades language arts, math, science and/or social studies. The program of study is available through face to face and distance education formats. Students may enroll in the program part-time or full-time. Learn more >

MAT in Secondary Education

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary Education is designed for individuals that already hold a bachelor's degree in one of the content areas: English, history, mathematics, or science but have not earned teacher licensure. The full year program includes coursework in pedagogy, academic discipline, and an internship. Successful completion of the program will lead to NC Secondary Education certification (9-12) and prepare educators to teach as secondary classroom teachers. Learn more >
