Undergraduate Elementary Education Distance Education Learning Program

Welcome to the Elementary Education Undergraduate Program - Distance Learning. Teaching elementary school is a highly rewarding profession that allows you to instill a love of learning, teach a variety of subjects and lay the foundation of children's futures. The Elementary Education program offered by the Watson College of Education will prepare you to teach children in grades K-6.

The Elementary Education program is offered at the Wilmington campus, through the UNCW Onslow Extension Site in Jacksonville, NC and as an online undergraduate degree program.

UNCW Onslow Extension Site

Since 1995, UNCW's Onslow Extension Site has provided access for non-traditional students - active and retired military, military families, students that may work full time, single parents and others - to earn college degrees without commuting to Wilmington.

Distinctive Features of the Onslow Extension Elementary Education Program

  • Model program, with close collaboration between UNCW, the Watson College, Coastal Carolina Community College (CCCC), the county public school system and nearby military installations
  • Education courses are completely online for the convenience of Onslow Extension Site students
  • Dedicated elementary education faculty, who are well-versed in online teaching and learning
  • Full time Watson College advisor is based at the community college to assist with course selection, transition to the university and B.A. degree completion
  • Opportunity to tutor students one-on-one in an Ed Lab located on the CCCC campus
  • Excellent relationships with public school teachers and schools, and field experiences integrated throughout the program
  • Opportunities for international experiences
  • Concentrations are offered in behavioral studies, English as a Second Language, early childhood, fine arts, international studies, language arts, math and technology, science and health, and social studies

Admissions: Steps to Becoming a Teacher through UNCW's Onslow Extension Site

The Elementary Education program at the Onslow Extension Site is offered in partnership with Coastal Carolina Community College. Students have the unique opportunity of taking their UNCW basic university courses at CCCC, and transferring to the UNCW Onslow Extension Site after receiving an associate's degree from CCCC. Admissions: Steps to Becoming a Teacher through UNCW's Online Degree Program

Admission to UNCW and the Watson College of Education is a two-step process.
The first step is admission to the university.
The second step is admission to the Watson College of Education (WCE). Students typically apply during their sophomore or junior year at UNCW. Transfer students typically during their first or second semester at UNCW.
