Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grades Education – Online Extension Program
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Middle Grades Education Extension Program is designed for students that are located within the Southeastern Region of North Carolina seeking Middle Grades Education Certification (6-9). Our students work with schools in our Professional Development system and a few additional affiliated districts shown in green and blue on this map. Please see the partnership map here.
Successful completion of the program will prepare students to teach two subject areas (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies) in the middle grades classroom. Students select an academic concentration in which they take 24 hours of content courses and an additional teaching field in which they take 18 hours of content course.
Review the concentration requirements here.
In our program, we offer all of our education courses online with the exception of the field hours which include classroom visits, tutoring, and then extensive field experiences in the middle grades classroom. Please note that some online courses in our program have required live meetings at a scheduled class time via online interface, such as Zoom. The content course requirements may be offered online or equivalences may be found at a local community college. Talk with your advisor to discuss course options.
Please review the recommended course sequence.
