Hi! I am so excited that you are interested in the Middle Grades program at UNCW. I am the Middle Grades Undergraduate Program Coordinator. So, if you are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in middle grades education, I can help you! I am also the Elementary Mathematics Add-On License Program Coordinator.

I came to UNCW from a long road of teaching and learning situations. My main area of interest is mathematics education. The road started in Indiana where I completed elementary, junior high school and high school. I went on to complete my undergraduate degree in mathematics education with a minor in computer science from Indiana State University. After graduating, I taught middle school and high school mathematics and computer programming in Indiana.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and learning, so I headed back to school to pursue my master's degree in mathematics education. I liked it so much I ended up staying to complete my Ph.D. in mathematics education. During my time in graduate school, I worked with pre-service and in-service teachers at all levels (elementary, middle school, and high school). Upon completing my Ph.D., I joined the middle grades program at UNCW. In the middle grades program, I teach the middle grades mathematics methods courses, instructional design for MAT students, and the field studies course for undergraduates. I also teach mathematics education graduate-level courses for elementary teachers and secondary mathematics methods and field experience courses. In addition, I supervise student teachers during their internship semester. I enjoy being back in the classroom and supporting future and current teachers as they improve their teaching! During the summers you will find me leading mathematics workshops for teachers who are seeking to improve their mathematics instruction.

We all work so hard, but we also enjoy our free time! During mine, you may find me at the gym, with friends, at the beach, or visiting my family in Indiana. I look forward to meeting you and helping you pursue your goal to become an effective middle-grades teacher!
