Community College Teaching in Early Childhood
Interested in Teaching at the Community College Level in Early Childhood Education?
The Watson College of Education has introduced a new Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Teaching at the Community College Level in Early Childhood Education. The 18- credit hour program, offered through the Leadership, Policy, and Advocacy in Early Childhood (LPAEC) program in WCE’s Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy, and Special Education Department is designed for professionals in the early childhood field interested in teaching at the community college level. The purpose of this certificate is to provide students in the M.Ed. in LPAEC program a set of courses they can take that could meet the requirement of teaching faculty in the Early Childhood Education program at NC Community Colleges. This certificate can also be taken by students who already hold a master’s degree and want to qualify to teach the Early Childhood Education program at NC Community Colleges.
Program Features
- The program is offered completely online and provides flexibility for full-time professionals who may need access to distance education options
- Courses are taught by dedicated faculty with expertise in early childhood education
- Students gain knowledge in early childhood content as well as teaching adult learners
Degree Requirements (18 credit hours)
- EDN 503 Introduction to Early Childhood Education
- EDN 512 Issues and Trends in Early Childhood Education
- EDN 521 Diverse Families and Children in Communities
- EDN 502 Advanced Culturally Relevant Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood and Elementary Programs
- EDN 595 Early Intervention and Child Development
- Select one of the following:
- EDN 513 Organization and Development of Early Childhood Programs
- EDN 501 Budget and Finance in Early Childhood Programs
- EDN 523 Advanced Administration of Early Childhood Programs
Eligibility
- Be enrolled in the M.Ed. Leadership, Policy, and Advocacy for Early Childhood program
- Currently hold a master’s degree in early childhood or related field and are interested in working in the Early Childhood Education program at NC Community Colleges
Admissions
To apply for admissions to the Community College Teaching in Early Childhood certificate program the applicant must submit the following:
- Once official transcript from each U.S. post-secondary institution attended.
- Three letters of recommendations to be submitted through the online application
- Complete an Education Statement of Interest
- Professional resume
