Promotion and Tenure News

The Senate RTP Committee has forwarded the following recommendations to the Provost (that must ultimately be approved by the UNCW Board of Trustees): Cetin Ciner, Promotion to Professor and Clay Moffett, Promotion to Associate Professor. Congratulations!


Ethan Watson received the annual Outstanding Paper Award for the Journal of Financial Research award for his paper, "Canceling Liquidity" co-authored with Robert and Bonnie Van Ness in 2015.

Pete Schuhmann received the 2012 MBA Outstanding Faculty Award.

Nivine Richie received the 2011 MBA Outstanding Faculty Award.

Grant Research

Bill Compton was awarded the BB&T research grant for Summer 2011.

Chris Dumas

  • "Development of Commercial Loan Assessment Tools." $10,000. Sponsor: Live Oak Bank. Including support of 3 paid undergraduate research experiences (Michael Ciancarelli, Lindsey Sackett and Danielle Hewett).
  • "North Carolina Coastal Homeowner Perceptions and Attitudes About Climate Change and Sea Level Rise." $8,000. Sponsor: North Carolina Sea Grant program. Including support of 2 paid undergraduate research experiences (Heidi Garrell and Davis-Ann Talton).

Nivine Richie was awarded the 2011 Global Citizenship Grant awarded by UNCW Office of International Program.

Cetin Ciner has been interviewed by the Associated Press about the gold market and the stories have been published in national newspapers including the Washington Times and Seattle Times.

Bill Compton

  • Presentation at UNCW in May, 2011 for North Carolina educators for the Personal Financial Literacy Council of the Department of Public Instruction.

Teaching and Study Abroad

Bill Compton will accompany students to Prague during Spring break as part of their senior seminar consulting project.
