Donald Everette Godwin '69

Donald Godwin was recognized for his exceptional legal work on behalf of clients in the 2010 Texas Super Lawyers listing. This honor was based on his expertise in business litigation. He earned additional recognition by being selected as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Dallas-Fort Worth for a sixth time.

Keith Edward Hedrick '79

Keith E. Hedrick CIA, CFE was promoted to internal audit supervisor at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority in January 2011.

Margaret W Norton '84

Margaret Norton is the author of When Ties Break: A Memoir about How to Thrive After Loss, published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises. She resides in Greensboro, where she works for a mortgage company and is involved with Writers' Group of the Triad, Guilford Nonprofit Consortium and Women's Resource Center, the National Association of Professional Women, the Story Circle Network and the Women on Writing organization.

Brett Alan Barnes '87

First Bank has appointed Brett Barnes as business development officer and senior vice president at its Wilmington main branch. Barnes has been in the banking industry and a resident of New Hanover County for 23 years.

Eric Caswell Hickman '88

Eric Hickman is senior vice president and Wilmington market president for Gateway Bank, but he earns acclaim as a musician in two local bands. Nearly a quarter of a century ago, he was a record-setting baseball player for UNC-Wilmington. He has fond memories of athletics and considers the achievements priceless. But he's recognized even more for Sound Dogs, a band he formed with brother Bruce Hickman, a retired police captain. Eighteen months ago, he launched another band - Jack Jack 180 - with Leah Ashley, attorney Jim Price and Don Spiers.

Stephen Reilly has been appointed an administrative law judge at the US Department of Labor.

James Edward Hickmon '92

James Hickmon is special counsel at the law firm of Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe & Garofalo, LLP. He directs the firm's Trusts & Estates Practice Group with offices in Charlotte, Raleigh and Wilmington.

Alan Gregg Moore '92

Alan Moore accepted a position as an occupational audiologist with the Dept. of the Navy at Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, with additional responsibilities at the Stennis Space Center. He manages the hearing conservation programs at these facilities and also provides clinical audiology services

Kimberly Brown Baggett '97

Kimberly Baggett and Samuel Boyce were married January 9, 2010. Kimberly works as the director of planned giving for the American Cancer Society's South Atlantic Division. The couple reside in Wilmington.

Mitzi Wilder married Chad Burchinal on Oct. 2, 2010.

Charles Ryan Wall '98

Freight Handlers Inc., one of the country's leading providers of unloading and product handling services, announced the promotion of Ryan Wall to president and chief operating officer. Wall has worked for Freight Handlers since his graduation from the UNCW. Ryan is active in Dr. John C. Maxwell's EQUIP and is an active advocate of Place of Hope, a faith-based foster care program in south Florida.

Shawn Shepard King '99

Shawn King has been named vice president of marketing at Wastequip. During her career, King has held various marketing, sales and product management positions for manufacturers within the building products, industrial/automotive, chemicals and textile industries. She was recently named one of Charlotte's 50 Most Influential Women by the Mecklenburg Times.

Jill Peters Raspet '99

Jill Raspet, from the Wilmington office of Smith Moore Leatherwood, has been elected a partner in the firm. Raspet is a board certified specialist in estate planning and probate law and is a member of the firm's trusts and estates team. She has been an attorney with Smith Moore Leatherwood for more than three years.

Lily Hunter of Jacksonville and Matthew Dale Deffenbaugh of Fayetteville, Ga., were united in marriage on Feb. 27, 2010. They reside in Beulaville.

Clyde Marshall Crider '01M

Clyde Crider has joined the North Carolina State University College of Management as co-director of the college's Supply Chain Resource Cooperative. He has a Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification, and is a Caterpillar Certified 6 Sigma Black Belt. Crider lives in Fuquay-Varina.

Eight-year teaching veteran Phil McPherson is the 2011-12 Teacher of the Year at Boys and Girls Homes School in Lake Waccamaw. He is a middle and high school math teacher and ran a family owned water-well drilling business for many years

Brian Willis of Black Mountain, NC has been named vice president of Information and Technology at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, managing the college's technology infrastructure and resources.

Sam Mintz has earned his Certified Financial Planner designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. He is a financial adviser and vice president at Scott & Stringfellow.

Justin Duffy celebrates the birth of a daughter, Layla.

Christopher David Kleparek '03

Christopher David Kleparek and Amy Elizabeth Weaver were married on May 22, 2010. Kleparek is a sales specialist at Thomson Reuters in San Francisco, Calif. The couple relocated to San Francisco.

Krystal Monique Chojnacki '03

Krystal Chojnacki was hired by the city of Mendota, Calif. as its new city manager. She previously was the municipality's city clerk. She graduated with honors from California State University, Fresno, with a master's degree in public administration

Lisa Adams Harper '03

Lisa Harper began her career in 2009 at Ockham as accounting manager, and was promoted to controller two years later. She has since overseen the daily operations of Ockham's finance department, reporting directly to the CEO with responsibility for the coordination of financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions at the company.

Brandon L. Ayscue and Jennifer A. Baucom, both of Charlotte, were married May 21, 2011. Brandon is a senior consultant in HealthCare Advisory Services with Grant Thornton LLP in Charlotte.

Elizabeth Carter was invited by the Tennessee Department of Education, on behalf of Public Consulting Group, to present at the Tennessee Statewide Special Education Conference. Carter provided eight training sessions to more than 1,000 special educators and administrators on EasyIEP™, a software program used to monitor all special education students in all TN school districts. This is the second year Carter has conducted such presentations at the annual Tennessee Department of Education SPED Conference.

Matt Mumpower of Raleigh has joined Johnson Properties Realtors and Auctioneers in Angier. In his new role, he will manage the production of all marketing tools, advertising and promotions for Johnson Properties. His professional experience includes positions with Streetlevel Media and The Goss Agency.

Thomas Bruin and Leeanne Zeznock '08M married Aug. 28, 2010 in Wilmington. Both work and live in the Netherlands with their infant daughter, Sadie Adelyn.
