COM 495-001 Media, Identity, & Difference Day/Time: TR 2:00 - 3:15 PM Instructor: Dr. Chadwick Roberts |
---|
Course Description: This course examines representations of difference and identity in a variety of media. How do media frame gender, race, class, sexual orientation and other identity categories? How have these representations evolved over time? What role do media play in how we understand minority groups and how members of these groups understand themselves? We will closely consider media audiences, content and production as we seek answers to these questions. Students will use key course concepts to analyze media through discussions, presentations, primary research and writing. As we discuss how digital technology has transformed access and participation, we will put these tools to work by creating podcast episodes for a series that deals with media and diversity. Students will design, brand and create content for the podcast. |
