CMS Research :: Estuarine Ecology Laboratory

Researchers in the Estuarine Ecology Lab at CMS are taking an ecosystem approach to examining organisms and processes in estuarine areas where the sea is in close contact with land, and where humans have changing influences on the environment. Research focuses on tracing nutrient and organic matter sources to the water column, sediments, and organisms throughout the food web, focusing on commercially-important bivalve species as indicator organisms. The lab conducts interdisciplinary, collaborative research with other marine scientists, federal and state policymakers, anthropologists, and paleoecologists, to support coastal resource management decisions.
