Admission Requirements: Post Master Certification - Family Nurse Practitioner

The following information pertains to the Admissions Requirements for the Master of Science in Nursing, Post-Master’s FNP Certificate Program.

  1. A completed Graduate School application.
  2. Official transcripts of all college work.
  3. Three recommendations (one each from a former nurse faculty member and a current or former employer, preferred).
  4. Current unrestricted North Carolina registered nurse license or registered nurse license from one of the affiliated compact states.
  5. Baccalaureate and Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.
  6. One year of professional experience as a registered nurse.
  7. Undergraduate GPA 3.0 or greater.
  8. Computer competency.
  9. A comprehensive interview may be requested.
  10. Additional items as needed.

The program of study will be tailored individually based upon previous coursework. Additional coursework may be required if educational assessment reveals the applicant has not had previous coursework in health assessment, advanced pharmacotherapeutics, or advanced pathophysiology. Applicant without these required prerequisite courses may complete these courses prior to beginning the clinical sequence of the Post-Master’s certificate program.

Computer Proficiency

As this program is primarily online, applicants must demonstrate computer skills including the ability to use electronic mail, web browser, a word processing program, PowerPoint, and basic database software. Enrolled students must own or have access to a computer with internet capabilities.
