Jacqueline Vaughn, PhD, RN, CHSE
Clinical Assistant Professor

Jacqueline VaughnDr. Jacqueline Vaughn joined the SON faculty in 2021 as a simulation educator. Vaughn began her simulation career at the Duke University School of Nursing more than 10 years ago. Vaughn has a passion for using innovative technologies in simulation to enhance learning outcomes for students. Recognizing the need for improving realism in simulation, Vaughn piloted an augmented reality simulation using Google Glass. She and her team won the BAYADA Award for Innovation in Technology in Nursing Education in 2015 for this project. She also incorporated interdisciplinary telehealth simulations for prelicensure and advanced practice nursing students. She has championed interprofessional simulation experiences with colleges across the university including the schools of medicine, physical therapy, and engineering.

Vaughn, along with her simulation colleagues at Duke, was awarded the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation in Learning (INACSL) “Frontline Simulation Champion” Excellence Award 2021. She earned her PhD from Duke University, completed a one-year post-doctoral fellowship UNC Chapel Hill, and has been a Certified Health Care Simulation Educator since 2014. In addition, Vaughn practiced as a pediatric nurse for 20 years. Her work with seriously ill children fueled her research interests which focus on enhancing symptom management using innovative mobile health technologies.
