Scott J. Saccomano: PhD, RN, GNP-BC, Assistant Professor

Scott SaccomanoDr. Scott Saccomano came to UNCW having served on the faculty at Coastal Carolina University. Other nursing faculty positions include Lehman College’s Nursing Department, the State University of New York, Southern Connecticut State University and Seton Hall University. Saccomano received his BSN from City College of New York, his MSN from Hunter College, an Advanced Practice Certificate as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from New York University and his Ph.D. in Health Professions Leadership from Seton Hall University. He has over 30 years’ experience with a specialty in gerontology, holding board certification as a geriatric nurse practitioner. He has served in various clinical and leadership positions in health care institutions in and around NYC.

Recently Saccomano has contributed three chapters in Primary Care: An Interprofessional Perspective on topics of dementia and delirium, demyelinating disease/multiple sclerosis and stroke, transient ischemic attacks and carotid stenosis. He is a regular contributor to the Nurse Practitioner Journal with recent publications on the assessment and management of wrist pain and on constipation in children with emphasis on diagnosis, treatment and prevention. 

Saccomano serves on the editorial board of Clinicians Reviews, a journal for nurse practitioners and physicians assistants, and s a member of the Shadow Health Advisory Board and Sigma Theta Tau International. He was a founding member of CUNY Men in Nursing, a local chapter of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. For his contributions to the profession, Saccomano was recognized in 2015 by the Nurse Practitioner Journal as a clinical scholar. His research interests are in the areas of leadership/management and improving care and health outcomes for older adults and men’s health.
