General Questions
1) How do I become a student in your department?
- After completing at least 24 semester hours, a student may apply to the EXS major.
- Admission requirements are:
- 2.7 overall GPA
- C or better grade in EACH:
- BIO 201 Principles of Biology: Cell
- CHM 101 General Chemistry
- MAT 111 College Algebra (or above)
- EXS 210 Introduction to Exercise Science (Fall 2017 students and after)
2) Are scholarships available?
- The T. Earl Allen Scholarship is a competitive scholarship open to rising senior Exercise Science and Physical Education Teacher Licensure majors.
3) Are summer classes available in EXS?
- Yes
4) What can I do with a degree in EXS?
- The EXS BS degree is designed for those students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and other allied health areas. The Exercise Science curriculum focuses on applying theoretical and practical aspects of exercise, fitness and wellness within clinical, educational, private and community settings. Exercise Physiologist Certification Concentration: This concentration fits student looking to get involved with Physical Training and will prepare them for the ACSM exam.
5) How employable will I be with a degree in EXS?
- As indicated in the above questions, the EXS degree is a stepping-stone degree to graduate school. Once a student earns a graduate degree, they are relatively marketable. Exercise Physiologist Certification Concentration: This concentration fits student looking to get involved with Physical Training and will prepare them for the ACSM exam.
6) Is there a particular course sequence I must follow?
- Yes
7) Does your program offer online classes?
- Yes, some EXS courses are offered online.
8) Am I required to complete all University Studies prior to beginning EXS?
- No

9) I am a transfer student. Am I required to take a course at UNCW prior to declaring my major in EXS? How do I become a student in your department?

10) I am a transfer student from an EXS program at another school. Will my courses be transferable to the EXS program at UNCW?
- It depends on the specific courses. The UNCW Admissions Office makes these determinations.
