Sasha Canan, Ph.D., M.Ed., Assistant Professor

Sasha CananSasha N. Canan earned her M.Ed. in Human Sexuality at Widener University and her Ph.D. in Community Health at the University of Arkansas, where she also completed a graduate certificate in Educational Statistics and Research Methods. She teaches courses in Research Methods in Public Health, Introduction to Biostatistics, and Social & Behavioral Determinants of Health. Previously she has taught courses in Human Sexuality, Women's Health, and Program Planning and Evaluation.  

Dr. Canan leads the Sexuality Education & Attitudes Lab (SEAL). SEAL research largely focuses on sex education policy, sexual assault, and the LGBTQ+ community. She utilizes mixed-method techniques in her work which she routinely presents at scholarly conferences. She is a former board member for the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, an international organization dedicated to sexuality research, where she also formally mentors graduate students across the country who conduct sex research.
