CHHS Awarded UNC System Office Digital Innovations Platinum Award

On March 27, CHHS was awarded the UNC System Office Digital Innovations Platinum Award at the inaugural Digital Learning Initiative Symposium held at the Carolina Club in Chapel Hill.

The award was presented to CHHS for excellence and innovation in online learning through its Online Accelerated Program (OAP), which makes select CHHS degree programs available to adult learners.

CHHS was invited to present at the Symposium by the UNC System Office and received the Platinum award for having been voted as the top presentation out of 18 presentations, representing 15 UNC System institutions.

“This award affirms the visionary nature of our program,” Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Chris Lantz said. “In my mind, the online accelerated program is truly unique in our system, and largely across the online degree landscape, in that it was specifically designed for the adult learner.”

Lantz went on to say that the CHHS’ Student Success Center supports the OAP adult learner by removing barriers such as where to go to get financial aid, where to go to get textbooks, how to enroll, etc., things that a residential student would be expected to complete before starting the program.

CHHS’ OAP currently consists of three programs: RN-BSN, MSN-Nurse Educator Concentration and Exercise Science.

Since 2013, the RN-BSN Program has seen a 1900 percent growth rate and the persistence rates are 88 percent—meaning, students who are admitted into the program stay in the program.

Additionally, UNCW was ranked 8th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for its online bachelor’s programs, which consists of the RN-BSN and Clinical Research.

In the future, CHHS will be adding new degree programs to address healthcare workforce gaps. These new programs will be offered in the OAP format as appropriate.
