MentorCHHS

The Center for Workforce Development offers career preparation opportunities in the form of mentorships to students pursuing a career in a health and human services field. MentorCHHS pairs students in a formal, structured partnership throughout the academic year with a mentor in their field of study. Currently, CWD will offer this opportunity to social work, public health, and clinical research students in the Fall of 2020 with the goal of expanding the program throughout The College of Health and Human Services.

These mentorship programs, MentorSW, MentorPBH, and MentorCR will connect students to experienced professionals with the primary goal of increasing their preparation for the workforce.  A secondary goal of the program is to build relationships between UNCW and local professionals by providing opportunities for engagement.

Once paired, students will participate in three interprofessional workshops:

  1. resume preparation, to help students learn to identify and articulate their skills and accomplishments in writing
  2. cover letter preparation, to assist students in effectively conveying their experiences as they relate to position descriptions
  3. mock interviews, to provide students with practice communicating their knowledge, skills, and experiences verbally, with individuals within and outside of their chosen field.
