Undergraduate Programs in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UNCW offers two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry. The BS degree is accredited by the American Chemical Society through their Committee on Professional Training (CPT). This degree is appropriate for students planning a career in chemistry, including those contemplating graduate school. It requires 400 hours of laboratory training above the 100 level, and courses taught by faculty who specialize in each of the five core disciplines: organic, inorganic, physical, analytical and biochemistry. The BA degree is designed for students who want a strong background in chemistry, but plan to pursue careers in other areas such as medicine, environmental science, biology, etc. See the menu to the left to find out more information about individual programs.
