A student who earns a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts associated with each of the major branches of chemistry: Organic, Analytical, Physical, Inorganic and Biochemistry.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform laboratory-based experiments, utilizing appropriate equipment, applying proper procedures and adhering to safety guidelines.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use modern library searching and retrieval methods to obtain information about a topic, chemical, chemical technique, or an issue relating to chemistry.
  4. Communicate the results of scientific investigations both orally and in writing.
  5. Participate effectively as a member of a group assigned to solve a chemical problem.
