What are Career Treks?
The Career Trek program provides UNCW students with a unique opportunity to explore career paths and industries in a proactive, in-person manner.
This program is designed to bring groups of UNCW students to off-campus professional settings, in order to increase their industry and career knowledge with the "behind the scenes" experience at various companies and organizations.
Career Treks typically consist of a tour, an overview of the company/organization, and an opportunity to hear from current employees about their roles. Students really appreciate genuine conversation about employees’ daily responsibilities and their personal career journey. Common discussions revolve around employees’ initial interest in the company, the industry, and their own job search.
This program is a great way to brand your company’s name on campus and increase awareness of internship or full-time roles (if applicable).

Employer FAQs
Who attends Career Treks?
Students that register for the Career Trek, the UNCW Employer Development team members, and faculty members if applicable and available.
I only want to invite a very specific subset of students. Is this a possibility?
Definitely! We will work with you to ensure that your Career Trek is marketed only to students you would like to target (i.e. specific academic majors, class levels, GPA). The online registration on Handshake only allows students of the specific populations chosen to view the event and to RSVP.
Do I need to market the event to students?
No. The UNCW Career Center will take care of the marketing for the event, including follow-up communication.
How many students typically attend Career Treks?
It depends on the host company/organization. A minimum of five students per Career Trek is preferred, and registration can be capped at a certain number. Treks typically range between 10-15 students but can be much larger if the host employer can accommodate a bigger group.
How do students register?
Students register online via Handshake.
Do I need to provide anything for the students?
It is not required, but we recommend providing students with any recruitment materials, company “swag” and/or light refreshments when they are visiting your facilities.
