Parking Deck

Date Occupied:

  • August 1, 2009

Historical Info:

  • UNCW's first parking deck opened in conjunction with Seahawk Crossing (Phase III of the privatized student housing program).
  • The parking deck's regionally produced materials, electric hook-ups for hybrid cars and other features helped the Seahawk Crossing complex earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED rating system is the nationally accepted standard for design, construction and operation of green buildings. Seahawk Crossing is the first LEED certified project at UNCW, reaching the "Silver" level of LEED certification.

Current Usage:

  • The deck provides premier parking accommodations for resident students, faculty and staff, commuter students and visitors.
  • There are 997 parking spaces for cars, vans and 20 motorcycles, including 2 handicap van accessible spaces.
  • The 52 visitor parking spaces, which are located on the main level, are accessible 24/7, with cash payment at the walk-up pay station. Visitor parking at the deck is free for the first 30 minutes. After that, the hourly rate is $1.50. The visitor daily rate is a maximum of $10 for a 24-hour period.
  • The deck also provides covered bicycle parking and electric hook-ups for hybrid cars.
