Wilmington Dance Events: Quotes for Dance-spiration

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

From tango and salsa to ballet and hip-hop, it’s no surprise that dancing makes people happier. Whether you’re hitting the dance floor yourself or enjoying some Wilmington dance events, summertime is meant to be full of dance-piration

This summer, enjoy three modern dance classics before their opening performance in Durham! Footprints, produced by the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, will present Martha Graham’s Dark Meadow Suite, Merce Cunningham’s How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run, and Paul Taylor’s Esplanade. Each piece is aode to movement, in all its varying forms and interpretations.

After experiencing Footprints, head on over to the UNCW Amphitheater for a free salsa party with Wilmington Latin Dance! The party will kick off with a beginner lesson and demonstration, which will lead into the lively dance party.

To get you ready for a night full of dance during the Lumina Festival of the Arts, here are some favorite dance quotes:

“Great dancers are not great because of their technique. They are great because of their passion.”
—Martha Graham

“We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.”
—Japanese Proverb

“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful.”
—Agnes De Mille

“When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing?”
Moliere

“Stifling an urge to dance is bad for your health—it rusts your spirit and your hips.”
Adabella Radici

“Any problem in the world can be solved by dancing.”
—James Brown
