Wilmington Film Events: Phoenix, Oregon

Saturday, July 27, 2019

A comedy about defying the haze of mid-life through reinvention, new indie film Phoenix, Oregon will be shown in collaboration with Cucalorus, a Wilmington film and arts organization, at Kenan Auditorium on Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Two friends, played by James Le Gros and Jesse Borrego, quit their jobs and begin restoring an old bowling alley. Their goal? To serve the “world’s greatest pizza.”

“These two go on an adventure together and open a bowling alley/pizzeria. I love these brave, wounded characters—who take a risk and make new friends along the way. And I’m here on the sidelines hoping they will succeed—hoping they’ll find what they’re looking for while they still have time,” says Director Gary Lundgren.

Phoenix, Oregon is a movie packed with familiar faces. You may recognize James Le Gros from his roles in Drugstore Cowboy and Living in Oblivion and Jesse Borrego from Fame and Blood In Blood Out(Insert headshots)

The movie also stars Lisa Edelstein from Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and House, Diedrich Bader from Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, and Veep, and Kevin Corrigan who you will know from The Departed, Pineapple Express, and True Romance.

Phoenix, Oregon Cast

Wilmington, which used to be more widely known as “Hollywood of the east,” is proud of its film heritage. Although there is much action to bring the film industry back to Wilmington, Cucalorus has done a great job of keeping Wilmington’s film culture alive through its annual film festival every November.

Although Wilmington has many conventional movie theaters, opportunities to view and support non-local indie films around town are few and far betweenPhoenix, Oregon was filmed (you guessed it—not in Phoenix, Oregon) in beautiful Klamath Falls, Oregon.
