Gaspard&Dancers
Preceding a performance that promises to inspire, Gaspard&Dancers will be conducting closed workshops for our local public and private schools. Be sure to join us as we open this opportunity up to the public on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building. This free community dance class will have you working alongside accomplished dancers to build foundations and hone
your craft—all skill levels are welcome.

Chicago Dance Crash
Chicago Dance Crash will lead a free community dance class on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building. We’ll see you there for a morning of contemporary movement!

Indigenous Peoples’ Public Art Reveal
The Indigenous Peoples' Public Art Reveal is a collaboration between the Office of the Arts, the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and members of several North Carolina tribal communities. This public installation by artist Jessica Clark serves to honor Indigenous cultures on the UNCW campus. The unveiling will take place on Thursday, Nov. 3, time and location to be announced. Ballet Hispánico
Ballet Hispánico will be on the UNCW campus for a three-day, Above and Beyond residency that includes: Dance masterclasses led by Ballet Hispánico’s dancers and director on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
Diálogos: A conversation between the company and community members to explore the intersections of art, social justice and Latinx cultures on Thursday, Nov. 10 in Kenan Auditorium, time to be announced.
An evening of Latin social dance lessons and fun, co-hosted by Wilmington Latin Dance on Friday, Nov. 11 at Brunches on Randall Drive, time to be announced.

One Noble Journey: A Mike Wiley Production
In the days before the evening performance of One Noble Journey, join Mike Wiley for community outreach workshops on Thursday, Jan. 19 and Friday, Jan. 20. Times and locations to be determined.
Hip Hop Collective (Our Town)
The Office of the Arts, the New Hanover County Resiliency Task Force, and two local teaching artists will collaborate on a multi-disciplinary project that incorporates visual arts and spoken word using hip hop as an entry point. This project is part of a larger community initiative to increase awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The culminating event promises to be a multi-media extravaganza! This event is free and open to the public. Date, time and location to be announced.
NEA Big Read: Cape Fear
This community book read will feature our chosen title, Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, and will kick off in early November 2022 to coincide with the 124th anniversary and observance of the Wilmington Massacre of 1898. In the six months that follow, the Office of the Arts, with community partners, will will curate literacy programming across the Cape Fear region. Events will include art exhibitions, poetry slams, oral history projects, and film screenings. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved!
Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers
The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers connects documentary filmmakers with communities throughout the south. From September through April, the Office of the Arts will partner with Jengo’s Playhouse to host six documentary film screenings with in-person visits from filmmakers. The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of South Arts. This screening is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
