Spring Break Trip to New York City
March 11-14, 2019

The Department of Art and Art History is sponsoring a student trip to Manhattan in New York City for Art and Art History majors over spring break. The purpose of the trip is to enable our students to visit some of the major art museums and galleries that make New York the art capital of the eastern United States. The number of students is limited.

Manhattan: New York's cultural center
Manhattan is one of the most vibrant and interesting places in the US, with an incomparable range of museums, parks, restaurants, creative industries and people all co-existing on an easily navigable and friendly island. We will be centrally located, staying in the Chelsea neighborhod. Google map of our location

Spending Money

Plan to bring at least $80/day in spending money for museum admissions, meals and transportation.

Trip Deposit
A $50 non-refundable deposit is due by Friday, February 1st, 2019.

Plane Ticket
If you are traveling on the group flight, you will need to purchase your own plane ticket with a group ticket code given by Dr. Kirschke after 5 pm on Friday, February 1st. The cost of the ticket will be $361.

Transportation to and from LaGuardia Airport:
We will have either a bus/van reserved or put students in a taxi with an adult chaperone. The Art & Art History department will cover this expense.

Weather
The weather during early March is usually winter-like, with temperatures in the 40s-50s during the day and well below freezing at night. It may snow or there may be snow on the ground.

Where You Will Stay: Chelsea International Hostel (251 W. 23rd Street)
Chelsea International Hostel has reserved 10 two-bed rooms (5 with private bathrooms and 5 with shared bathrooms). The location in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood is one of New York's safest.
